The decorative floor designs are actually built up from mosaics, such as were used in the days of the ancient Roman Empire.
This design is replicated several times around the periphery of the central point / approximately where I was standing when I took the previous photograph.
Also included in the decorative floor designs scattered around the central point are mosaics representing the cities of Turin (the bull), Rome (the she-wolf with Romulus & Remus), Florence (the lily) and Milan (a red cross on a white background). Some of these are seen in the next few photographs.
