The tram is of the type known as 'Peter Witt'. These date from the late 1920's and despite being so old are so reliable (as well as liked) that many are still in frontline daily service. (Milan also operates more modern tramcars on other routes).
In times past similar streetcars designed by Mr Witt - who was a Cleveland Street Railway commissioner - have operated in several American (Canadian etc.,) cities including Louisville, Los Angeles, various locations in New York City & State, Cleveland,
Detroit, Chicago, St Louis, Toronto, Ottawa, Mexico City... in the present era some are used on the F Market historic streetcar line in San Francisco, on duties which are shared with historic PCC cars from various US cities.
This view also shows the very distinctive flagstone road surface which is a feature of much of Milan, especially the cities' central areas.
