Example of a higher capacity "between platforms" circulating area.

This wide circulating area between the platforms was built for the London Underground Jubilee Line extension which opened in late 1999. It is at London Bridge station, which in addition to being an important traffic destination in itself is a very busy interchange station with the mainline railway and the City branch of the London Underground Northern Line.

To adequately cope with large passenger volumes it features multiple accesses to / from the station platforms, a set of escalators at each end (leading to two different ticket halls, one of which also serves the mainline railway station) plus in the centre a dedicated interchange passageway that is reached by a double sided stairway and for passengers interchanging with the Northern Line.
